I live at xxxx Illiamna and at 1:15AM on the 6th of January, my car alarm went off. No one was there when I went outside to check, but I did see taillights on a car parked further down on Illiamna near the Lyn Ary Park sign that moved on when I stepped into the street. Nothing was taken and my neighbors report the same.

Less than a week ago, a VW Jetta GL (black), Lic. Plate GSN 888 was sitting outside my house on the street with two male occupants. It looked like they were on a laptop. When I pulled in my driveway on Lord Baranof, they drove away. I turned around and followed them. Lots of turns R and L and then they ditched me on Northern Lts. Anyone know this vehicle? I bet they were trying to tap into my wireless service.

Hello, neighbors,
I live on Brooke Dr. (between St. Elias and Captain Cook). My silver 2007 Toyota Prius was stolen from our driveway last night, 12/28 or early 12/29, and my husband's car was ramsacked.
Please be on the lookout for my Prius. It's small, silver, license plate FBS 400. I filed a police report this morning. If you see it, please call the police at 786-8900 or you can reach me at xxxxx or xxxxx. My keys weren't in the car, but I may have left it unlocked.
Thanks,

Hello,
My house is at the East end of Marston Dr. and was I surprised yesterday morning (12/14/09) when a man rang our doorbell a little before 9am. When I answered the door he asked for someone named Stephanie. When told there was noone here by that name, he said he'd come to pick up Stephanie to take her to school. He had no car but said his friend's car was not running well and was afraid he wouldn't make it back up the hill of our driveway and parked at the top of the hill. I couldn't see a car at the top of the hill. He claimed to have gotten to our house by following directions, but couldn't tell me what street he was looking for. After calling someone on his cell, he claimed the street name was "Stillwater". At this point I urged him to leave and closed the door.
A few hours later some neighbors were in the driveway searching for a wayward dog. While visiting, they alerted me to the burglary a few days ago at the Hately's home as well as "others". That's when I became suspicious that the man at my door yesterday was more than likely casing the house and checking to see if anyone was home. While he was here he appeared to be anxious and his responses didn't seem to make much sense. He wasn't a very big white man, maybe 5'7" or 5'8" with a slight build and dark hair.
After telling my husband about our morning visitor, he agreed that the man could very well have been casing the house. I called the APD and filed a report this morning.

I live at xxxx Lord Baranof. Someone tried to break into my house late Halloween night (after midnight). I happened to be home and scared them away. I called the police with a description of the two men and a description of their vehicle. I thought it might have been a lone event because of the holiday and the fact that I wasn't home that night until late but maybe not. To my knowledge the police did not come out to the neighborhood that night because they didn't get in my house and I didn't get a license plate number. The vehicle was a red, four door, Ford Explorer. One of the men rang my door bell at 12:45 am. My dog went nuts barking at the front door. I didn't turn any lights or go to the door. I just looked out the windows to see if any one was around. I noticed the guy creeping up the side of my house heading back to my front door. I opened a window and yelled at him. He took off running. The Ford Explorer was parked in front of a neighbors house at 2701 Lord Baranof. The guy driving the Ford pulled up very quickly and picked up his accomplice. Both guys were younger (18-28), wearing dark hoodies and both had very short hair. They circled the neighborhood and headed out to Northern Lights.

There was another incident in the neighborhood yesterday. Police were all over the Loussac/Arctic Circle area yesterday looking for someone who had set off an alarm on Loussac. Fresh footprints were seen under a window.
As for the burglary that happened a few days ago at Loussac and Discovery, 2 people said they saw a "skinny kid in a black hoodie with a roller bag over his shoulder."
Hope he gets caught soon.

Our neighbors, the Hatelys, were burglarized today in the early afternoon - between noon and 1 pm. A small flat screen TV, laptop, cash and jewelry were taken. The police tracked footprints from their house to our's at xxxx Discovery Ct. Distinctive footprints show that the person in question wears a flat sneaker - Vans. Everyone should be alert for unusual people in the neighborhood and take precautions when leaving your home during the day. If you have an alarm - set it. If you don't, make your house look like it is occupied - leave a radio on, set lights on a timer.

Not sure if this is how we report a crime in the neighborhood but just wanted to get the word out -- we had four tires on wheels stolen from in front of our garage today. Thanks for helping us alert the neighbors!

Rachel,
I think this would be good
information to get out to the
neighborhood. It's three separate pieces of information
that put
together, could cause us to increase our awareness
for ourselves and
neighbors. Yesterday, a couple of gents were going
door-to-door
asking for money. They were characterized to me
by a friend as "a
couple of homeless guys". This started at Knik/Lord
Baranof.
This evening, a gentleman
stood in the street by our house for an
extended period of time, long enough to be considered
odd. He stood
staring at our house (Knik/Lord Baranof). He stood
in the road, having
traffic divert around him. This went on for about
20 minutes until a
phone call made outside within his ear range to
APD. We would
characterize his behavior as suspicious and not
normal for this
neighborhood. He walked down Knik (North), pulling
in to a couple
of driveways along the way. I followed him; he turned
around at the
Green's house and went into the rent-a-can at the
new construction
across the street. APD subsequently contacted him
and he left the
neighborhood.
The third bit of info is
that my Mom's neighbors accosted me and asked why I was skulking about outside their house (I
LOVE this
neighborhood!). When I told her what I was doing,
she commented that maybe this was the same guy crawling over the fence
in her back yard yesterday or last night.
So, it appears at the least
that we have some increased random
activity in our neighborhood. Keep your doors locked,
your kids close
by and your eyes peeled.
The guy we saw tonight was
about 5'9", caucasian, wearing a black down
coat, dark green pants, and brown Sorrels. He had
a black knit cap
with a white feather hanging out of the left side.
He has a full
brown beard and mustache.
We were alerted not by his
looks, but by is actions.

Was his beard and hair reddisish
brown? there is a guy who wonders around here (at
all hours)same description who I have been wary
of. I think he is schizophrenic or has some mental
status imbalance. I hate to label but he has made
me a bit uneasy. He hasn't done anything to make
me do anything. When I have tried to engage him,
saying "hi", he's always unresponsive,
distant. Often smiling or laughing by himself as
if talking to someone not there.

I live on West Marston Drive.
A couple of weeks ago a very thin, short about 5'4"
blond clean shaven white man wearing a white knit
hat rang my doorbell several times at 4:15am. I
spoke to him through the closed door. He said he
was my neighbor, his name was "Alice Marie"
and he needed to walk through my house and back
yard to the alley, he said a dog would not let him
get home. I told him to get off my property. He
stood in the road for awhile then walked in my neighbors
yard. I called the police. He stole my neighbors
bike and got away before the police arrived. The
new road and hard economic times are probably to
blame. I have lived here 5 years and had no trouble
at all till this summer. It is probably time for
organizing a neighborhood watch on my street. Sincerely,
Kathy, West Marston Drive

Rachel,
I thought you would be the best way to get this
message to the neigborhood. We were robbed over
the weekend. They came in through a back window
and out the back door. I just want to tell everyone
to make sure they lock all their windows and doors
and consider getting an alarm.
And of course if anyone hears of anything that might
pertain to our home let us know.
Thanks,
Sherry, Illiamna Ave
PS We are all fine.
